1. 09 Returnees party
The date has been set, and it’s not far away. Although unfortunately it won’t suit everyone, the annual welcome back event will be held at the Function Room at Fuji restaurant in Vic Park from 6:30 pm on Friday 9 October 2009.

This event is a great chance to catch up with old friends, hear new experiences of JET participants, and enjoy a drink with some Japanese food.

There will be a nominal charge of $5, which ensures that we have food and drink of sufficient quantity and quality.
Please RSVP by Monday 5 October 2009 to this email. This is a members-only event, unfortunately, so your guests/partners will have to come to one of our less exclusive shindigs.
Also please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.

2. Careers night update
At this stage we are waiting to confirm the annual Careers Night for the last week of October. We have an interesting lineup of presenters who have expressed interest, so watch this space!

3. Book launch
On Wednesday October 14 from 5:30 pm, Dr Ronda Jamieson will be launching Interpreting Occupied Japan: The Diary of an Australian Soldier, by Basil Archer. The book describes the experiences of an Australian writer trained in the Japanese language for occupational work in Japan during the Allied occupation. The launch is at the Hyogo Centre in City Beach, and the author will be present.

If anyone is interested in attending, please contact us by Thursday, October 8.

4. Bonsai Society exhibition
From 10:00-16:00 from 10-11 October 2009, the Fremantle Town Hall is host to the Spring Bonsai Exhibition presented by the Bonsai Society of WA.
No RSVP is required to this event, which is billed as the biggest and best display of bonsai to be exhibited in Australia.

5. kaiWA
The free English-Japanese cultural & conversational exchange, kaiWA, is going strong at 43 Below every second Thursday. In October the dates will be the 8th and 22nd.

6. Committee meeting
This month’s committee meeting was held on Tuesday 29 September. The October meeting is TBA.

7. Website

We are in the final stages of preparing our new website for public release! Watch this space!

Thanks everyone, and we hope to see you soon!
