1. DRUM-TAO SUBMISSION CONTEST
We all know the power and primal energy of taiko drumming, and Drum-Tao has received outstanding critical acclaim for its stirring worldwide performances. Drum-Tao is returning to Australia in 2010, with shows from 22-26 June inclusive at the Perth Concert Hall, as well as special performances on 19 June in Mandurah and 27 June in Bunbury. Tickets are available from BOCS and more details are available here.
We have also been informed that for the next 72 hours there is a special deal, with $10 off all A and B Reserve tickets when booking through BOCS online.
JETAAWA has been fortunate enough to secure 4 tickets to the Tuesday 22 June performance by Drum-Tao at the Concert Hall.
At the same time, we have decided that our first official magazine this year should be specially targeted at 2010 returnees, giving them information on ways to deal with reverse culture shock, reminding them of great memories of Japan, and introducing them to ways to continue their relationship with Japan here in WA (restaurants, clubs, etc.)
The upshot is that we are looking for submissions from all of you for the magazine, with the 2 best submissions (in the opinion of the committee) receiving 2 tickets each to see Drum-Tao on 22 June! As noted, we would prefer submissions that might be of use or interest to 2010 returnees. Other than that, the content is up to you!
Given that the committee needs to decide on this prior to the show, the deadline for receiving submissions (which should be sent to media@jetaawa.com) is Sunday 13 June 2010. Good luck – we look forward to a big response!
2. WINTER MATSURI
A new event started last year by JETAAWA was the Winter Matsuri – a trip through the Swan Valley as an alternative to what is sometimes the ugliness of Spring in the Valley. This year we will again be visiting 2 wineries, the chocolate and nougat factories, and a brewery. At this stage it looks like tickets (which including wine tasting, cheese platters and snacks on the bus) will be $20 and the charter bus leaves from Barrack St Jetty at 10:30 am sharp on Sunday 20 June 2010. More details to follow soon! If you are interested, please RSVP now as numbers are limited to around 45 people. Non-members are welcome!
3. WEBSITE
You may have noticed that we have moved to the www.jetaawa.com address. The beta version of the new website is open to view and comment on, so please take a look and let us know (web@jetaawa.com) what you think! Photos, magazines, news, meeting minutes, etc. are all available, so give it a go!
4. 会WA
会WA, as always, is on every second Thursday at 43 Below (corner Hay & Barrack streets) from 5:30pm. Upcoming dates are: 20 May, 3 June, 17 June. Come along, practise your Japanese and meet new people!
5. MAY COMMITTEE MEETING
The May committee meeting will be on Tuesday 25 May at around 6:30/7pm, venue TBA. Please let us know if you would like to attend.
Minutes of the April meeting are at www.jetaawa.com.
6. BUSINESS WRITING TUTOR & JAPAN RAIL PASSES
We have received a request for a business writing tutor for a Japanese businessman in Perth. It can be at work or at home, and Japanese ability is not a prerequisite (although it would be useful, no doubt). If you are interested, please contact Ryoko Komatsuzaki at ryoko@letsgoaustralia.com.au.
Don’t forget that our friends at Let’s Go also offer discount Rail Passes for JR – maybe useful for your next trip! Please contact Ryoko as above if interested.
Cheers!
