Hi all.
Thanks to those who attended Ponyo on Saturday evening – we had a turnout of 36 who I think all enjoyed the movie!
The cooperation of Cinema Paradiso was much appreciated; we hope to hold more similar events in the future.
In this week’s news, we have an ambitious new proposal from the Hyogo Centre, and details of the annual karaoke night hosted by our great friends at JAPSSOC.
1. HYOGO ENVOY ASSOCIATION OF WA
You may already know that the Hyogo Centre has moved to 20 Kalinda Drive, City Beach. Along with the move, the Centre is also planning some proactive and exciting projects.
One of these is the Hyogo Envoy Association of WA. Some of us who spent time in Hyogo may have been named as Goodwill Envoys for the prefecture. Until now, however, it was difficult to find a way to use that status.
The Hyogo Centre is now trying to put those Envoys, as well as anyone else who has lived in or visited Hyogo, to good use. Please refer to the attached form for more details of the initiatives.
JETAAWA is a supporter of the Hyogo Centre and we would strongly urge all ex-Hyogo JETS, especially Goodwill Envoys (remember, you had to apply for the position, so you were obviously motivated at the time!) to get in contact with the Hyogo Centre and let them know how you can help.
This could be as simple as volunteering for Hyogo events every once in a while, speaking at seminars on Hyogo, or submitting a short blurb on your favourite parts of the prefecture. Any small contribution you can make is a great help to the Centre and to Japan-WA relations.
2. JAPSSOC KARAOKE
Every year UWA JAPSSOC holds the very successful and fun Karaoke Night upstairs at Seizan on Hay St. The 2009 edition is this Thursday (17 September) from 7pm. Tickets are just $15 and are available at the door. There will, as always, be lots of prizes and food on the night.
JAPSSOC is a great supporter (and breeding ground!) for JET, so if you have an urge to relive your karaoke box memories and get involved, head on down!
3. EVENT SURVEY
While many of our events this year have been well attended, we are always looking to make you happier as JETAAWA members. Please let us know what events you would like to see added to the calendar and how we can change things to suit you. Most JETAAWA events are free and give you the chance to enjoy your JET experience and help recent returnees and future leavers, so the hard-working committee would appreciate your input.
4. kaiWA
会WA is on 24 Sep and 8 August as per usual – from 5:30 pm at 43 Below. It’s a great way to meet new people, catch up with old friends and practise your language skills. See you there!
