Hi all – lots to get through in this edition, including some great events just waiting for your RSVP!
1. WINTER MATSURI
JETAAWA’s Winter Matsuri is a gastronomical and cultural event that encompasses the delights of the beautiful Swan Valley region near Perth. It’s Spring in the Valley minus the vomit.
For the tiny sum of $25 you will experience a full day on a bus having fun with cross-cultural activities and visiting some of the Swan Valley’s finest wineries, breweries and delicacies.
Wine and food samples are included in the price, but if you want to have something a bit more substantial we suggest you bring a sandwich along or a few extra dollars to buy lunch and a beer at Ironbark Brewery.
It’s a great, fun day out and a fantastic way to make some new friends or catch up with old ones. It’s open to JETs and non-JETs alike.
Winter Matsuri 2012 is Saturday 30 June. The bus leaves Barrack St Jetty at 930am sharp (be there by 915!) and returns by 5pm.
Tickets must be paid for in advance – you can’t just show up on the day because we likely won’t have any space for you! For bank transfer details, contact Dave at vp@jetaawa.com. RSVP by Wednesday 27 June.
See you there!
2. LEAVERS Q&A AND DINNER
On Friday 22 June 2012, the JETAAWA committee is holding a Q&A session for this year’s JET cohort. After the Q&A, from around 1830-1900 until late, we will be heading to our favourite izakaya, Jun Restaurant on Hay Street, for dinner, which will hopefully be partly subsidised. Thanks to those who have already RSVPd. If you haven’t, and you’d like to come to dinner and meet the new JETs and share war stories, please RSVP to president@jetaawa.com by Monday 18 June 2012.
This is a great, casual event to which all ex-JETs are welcome.
3. PHOTO EXHIBITION: CALL FOR TOHOKU JETS
From Monday 9 July to Friday 27 July 2012, the Japan Foundation with the Consulate-General and the City of Perth are holding a beautiful exhibition of some 120 photos taken in the Tohoku region over the decades since the 1940s.
It consists of works that portray the past, present and future of the people and culture of Tohoku.
The exhibition will be at Council House (27 St Georges Terrace) and is free. Details are on the attached flyer.
We have also had a special request via the Consulate-General, which is planning to promote Tohoku sake and foods during the exhibition, hopefully on the evening of Thursday 19 July 2012.
The Consulate-General is looking for ex-JETs who worked in the Tohoku region, and have some knowledge of Tohoku sake and foods, to help at the event.
Please let us know ASAP if you fit the bill and would like to come along: president@jetaawa.com.
