1. URGENT: UNI VISITS
The Consulate-General has organised for information sessions to be held at the various universities in Perth over the next 2 weeks.
We are urgently looking for JETAAWA members who might be able to present at the seminars, which would basically be watching a DVD and then responding to any questions from attendees.
Delegates from the Consulate-General will also be attending – you won’t be alone! There is a $70 gratuity offered.
The schedule is:
Tuesday 4 September 2012, 1-2pm: UWA (SSLR1)
Wednesday 5 September 2012, 1-2pm: Curtin (LT213, room 101)
Thursday 6 September 2012, 1230-130pm: Murdoch (ECL3)
Tuesday 11 September 2012, 130pm: ECU Mt Lawley (venue TBC)
We are particularly looking for people to cover UWA (urgently!) and ECU.
Please let us know if you can assist (president@jetaawa.com) and we can give you more details.
Thanks!
2. JOB/MENTORING OPPORTUNITY
We have also received a request for assistance from Oakajee Port & Rail, which might be right up the alley of some of our members.
Oakajee is searching to find someone who may be able to assist its team in a coaching/mentoring/consultancy role to increase its understanding, at a deeper level, the cultural differences which emanate between a relatively newly-formed group of Australian managers and a very large and well established Japanese company as an owner.
The intent is to help the local team really try and ‘walk in the shoes’ of the Japanese owner in terms of trying to understand the workings/processes/procedures/organisational culture, including decision-making, that will stem from Tokyo and also play out in Perth, in order to assist the local team to be as effective as possible.
At this stage, Oakajee is looking to brief someone and then spend at least a few hours as a team with that person and then perhaps even foster an ongoing relationship with them. A perfect ‘cv’ might be someone who has indeed worked inside a really large Japanese corporation, lived in Japan and fully understands Japanese business culture beyond a superficial level.
If this is a skill set/undertaking that you have, please contact president@jetaawa.com and we will pass on your details.
