1. Careers Night
Following from last year’s hugely successful event, JETAAWA is again holding the Japan Careers Seminar on Tuesday 27 October 2009 from 6pm in the UWA Social Sciences Lecture Theatre 1 (the same venue as last year). Access is from Car Park 3 off Hackett Drive Entrance 1.
We have an exciting lineup of presenters from fields provisionally including:
- Government
- Games
- Teaching
- Resources
- Cultural Diversity
- Postgrad Study
- Tourism
- Market Development
- JET Programme
- Translation & Interpreting
This is a great opportunity for ex-JETs to find out how they can put their interest, experience and skills to good use. Many of the presenters are ex-JETs themselves, so their insights will be particularly relevant. We hope the evening will be finished by 8:30pm.
As always, entry is free, and snacks and drinks are provided. Please RSVP by 23 October.
2. Returnees party
The returnees party is from 6:30 this Friday (9 October) at Fuji in Vic Park. We have less than 20 RSVPs at the moment, so we’ve decided to extend the deadline. Just $5 gets you all you can eat and drink (within reason! you’re not in Japan any more!) at a great Japanese restaurant. Please let us know ASAP.
3. JAPSSOC Spring Feast
This Thursday, 8 October, from 6-10pm, UWA is having its Multicultural Week Spring Feast in the Guild Village. Our friends at JAPSSOC will be making and selling okonomiyaki and green tea ice cream!! There are also lots of other delicious and interesting things happening, so check it out!
4. AJS Glaucoma Seminar
On Saturday 10 October 2009 at the Hyogo Centre in City Beach, the Australia-Japan Society is presenting a free seminar providing information about glaucoma. More info is available here.
5. Postgrad info at UWA
On Wednesday 28 October 2009 (the day after the Careers Night), the UWA Faculty of Arts is holding a Postgraduate Information Evening in the Fox Lecture Theatre and Arts Lecture Rooms 4-6, just off Car Park 3. There will be opportunities to speak to individual discipline academics (including from Asian Studies, Japanese, etc), so if you are looking for more detailed information than might be available at the JETAAWA event, check out the attached pdf and get on down. RSVPs must be in to joanne.smith@uwa.edu.au.
6. kaiWA
kaiWA is still on and strong – for free, casual, Japanese-English conversation, come to 43 Below on Thursday October 8 or 22 from 5:30 til late.
7. Committee meeting
The October commitee meeting is TBA.
8. Japanese school bunkasai
The Japanese School in Perth is having its annual bunkasai on Saturday 7 November at its new location at 20 Kalinda Drive, City Beach. As last year, JETAAWA will be selling food / drink there, so please come down and support us and the JSP. More info to follow.
Thanks everyone!
